How to Prepare for your Engagement Session!

Woo! You've booked a session with your photographer and you are excited to capture the engagement photos you have dreamed of! But you are starting to stress and subconsciously think, "what if I'm awkward," "what if I forget something," "how does one even get poses like those seen on Pinterest??"

Stop right there, my friend! Breathe. Your photos will be BEAUTIFUL and you are going to have a great time! Channel the excitement not the worry.

Now, since I know the stress and nerves will creep back in the night before I have pulled together my tips to help you prepare for your photography session!

Let me know what you think! I'd love to hear from you.

Your favorite professional third wheel

1.) Details!

Don't forget the details. Hair, nails, socks, jewelry, etc! In fact, plan ahead for these things. Get your hair & makeup done if you can! It is a great way to enjoy the process. Get your nails done - trust me! You don't want the small details to be the thing you regret. Lay out everything the night before. These types of things can become a hassle the day of so just plan ahead and think through these small but beautiful details!

2.) Bring a Few Different Outfits

If your photographer doesn’t mind then I suggest bringing a few outfit options. I recommend having two outfits you love - one fancier option and one casual option. Bring an extra one or two just in case as well! What if you spill something on yourself or get to the location and decide an alternate option looks better with the backdrop...You'd rather have the backups than not! Also! Be sure you and your partner's outfits COMPLIMENT one another. You do not need to match but you should definitely coordinate. Stay away from tiny prints as these do not show up. I often recommend neutral colors. This way you can add in pops of color if desired. Check out my Pinterest page for examples and suggestions!

3.) Props

Props can be so fun! Do you have a hobby or maybe a favorite bottle of wine? If there is something meaningful or something fun you want to bring along do so! Even if it's just popping some champagne to celebrate! Your session should feel more like a fun date night than anything else!

4.) Travel Time

Plan for travel time!! Map out where you are going ahead of time and then add some extra time! Parking can take longer than you think or unexpected traffic can occur. You will want to make sure you have plenty of time to get to where you are going without stress. And I bet your photographer scheduled your session around a certain time of day to ensure the lighting in your images is oh so dreamy!

5.) Keep the Mood Light!

This should be a fun time! I are engaged!! Celebrate that! The more you smile, relax, act silly, be confident, and have fun the better your pictures will be. I understand being in front of a camera can be unusual and slightly uncomfortable - I totally get it! Just remember, your photographer does this all the time! And, if they are like me, they LOVE photographing love. So just be you and think about capturing memories not just photographs.
